Ange Postecoglou brutally shuts down Celtic media speculation
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou isn’t expecting the club to do any more incoming transfer business between now and the close of the window, labelling recent speculation as ‘outright categorical lies’ this weekend.
Celtic have already added Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi to the squad. And while the Bhoys boss admitted there was interest in Riley McGree, he’s shut down every other recent transfer rumour connected to the club.
As quoted by The Scottish Daily Mail today [14/01 print edition, page 93], Postecoglou said: “There are a lot of names being bandied around which are just outright categorical lies. I haven’t spoken to any other player, I haven’t targeted any other player.
“Apart from the ones we have signed, I had a discussion with Riley because I knew him and I wanted to get the lie of the land there.
“I don’t expect us to do any more business in this window — unless something happens within the current squad that means we need to supplement, or something extraordinary comes along.
“But if you hear a name over the next few days that has been linked with me, or it’s said that I’ve spoken to them or identified them, I can assure you that it’s someone’s imagination or someone looking to get a better deal for their player somewhere else.”
Ange couldn’t be clearer about Celtic rumours
It doesn’t really get more equivocal than that. Postecoglou is making it absolutely clear that he will not be an open book for the media to pick at with regards to transfers.
While transfer rumours are often inescapable, and in my opinion quite entertaining, it seems that McGree was the only real iron in the fire as that was concerned.
It seems we’ll have to set the bar a bit higher on any upcoming transfer rumours and can put other recent names to rest, with reports coming from France, Iran and other countries that are apparently of no relevance.
