Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has shared an update on the club’s plans for the January transfer window, sharing discussions are already ongoing regarding on a number of targets.

The club completed a lot of business during the summer months but there’s still a feeling this squad is far from the finished article in terms of personnel.

Postecoglou has had to put together some makeshift teams and match days squads over the last few weeks as injury concerns came to the fore.

And now he’s looking for new players to come in and join the team.

Speaking to The Sunday Post this weekend, the Bhoys boss said: “Japan is one of the markets we will be looking at. Obviously, I know it really well, and they will get to the end of their season, which is a good time if there’s anyone who will fit into our set-up. But we will be looking everywhere.

“The last window in the summer was frantic. This time we want to make sure that we are planning our moves well in advance.

“We have already identified targets, and begun discussions before we get to January. So that we can conclude deals a lot quicker than we did in the previous window.”

I don’t think I’ve heard a manager be so candid about upcoming transfer windows, specifically calling out markets of interest and that discussions are already underway regarding targets.

That’s the way the football club should be working, planning in advance rather than reacting to a desperate situation.

I doubt Celtic will be making anywhere near the number of signings that they did in the summer. However, two or three quality first-team options should be achievable, especially with all this forward planning and a better market for Postecoglou to work his contacts in.

Celtic have the resources. Let’s get the business done.
