Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that Celtic’s reported bid for Dylan Reid is not relevant in terms of strengthening the first team this summer.

Football Scotland has reported that Celtic have had a £125,000 offer accepted for the St Mirren talent, who is still just 17.

There’s an expectation other teams could make bids over the next few days, with his future far from certain.

The news has led to plenty of pretty dramatic and excited headlines over the last 24 hours, but the Celtic boss has made it clear it’s a signing that he isn’t directly dealing with.

The Bhoys boss is quoted as saying on the potential transfer: “I think that’s more for our B team. Again, I’d love to be the man for everything, but I have limitations in terms of what I’m focused on at the moment. Other people are in charge of that area.

“I think between now and when the window closes, it [first-team transfers] will always be imminent. But is anything going to happen in the next 24 hours? Unlikely.

“We need to bring in at least a couple of more players and are working on that. In terms of exits, there is some stuff going on in the background with some players. My focus is more on the guys who are here and the boys we’re trying to bring in.”

Nonetheless, Reid is a rated talent having already made senior appearances for the Buddies and out on loan at Queen’s Park.

The midfielder is well regarded within the Scotland set-up too having featured for the U16 and U17 sides.

Getting him in the door as a player with potential who can get regular match experience under his belt in the Lowland League would be welcomed.

No doubt he won’t be the only youngster Celtic are looking at this summer to work with the talents already coming through from Academy teams.
