Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Celtic’s interest in Sead Haksabanovic for the first time this evening, telling Sky Sports the move is ‘getting close’ after days of speculation.

Haksabanovic is registered to Rubin Kazan and reports have indicated for days that he could be on the verge of completing a medical. Multiple outlets have reported the switch is imminent.

Postecoglou, in his Friday press conference, brushed off Haksabanovic questions. However, speaking after today’s 2-0 win against Hearts, he made it clear it’s something in the pipeline.

Asked if the deal getting closer to completion, the Celtic boss told Sky Sports with a smile: “Yeah, I think that’s a fair assessment. It’s getting close.”

Postecoglou rarely comments on transfer business before it’s announced, so this one must be pretty far down the line if he is speaking with some sort of confidence on the matter.

Haksabanovic is a versatile attacker who can play on both flanks as well as through the middle – he rounds out Postecoglou’s attacking options with Mikey Johnston likely heading out on loan and Albian Ajeti nowhere near matchday squads.

It’s true that players such as Liel Abada aren’t getting much game time at the moment, but the match schedule is about to get much busier and increasing the quality of alternative options should be seen as a big positive.

It shows that Celtic are still very much in the hunt for signings in the closing stages of the transfer window, with the potential for another to come in on the back of the Montenegro international.

Watch out for that Celtic announcement!
