Celtic have officially announced Matt O’Riley as Ange Postecoglou’s latest January signing.

The 21-year-old joins on a four-and-a-half-year deal from MK Dons in English League One.

Postecoglou is obviously thrilled to get his man and told the official club website: “We’re delighted to get Matt into the club. He’s someone who should fit in well with the group we have here, both from on the field and also the kind of person he is.

“We’re looking forward to having him as part of the group. He’s a talented young player and I’m sure he’ll enjoy his time here, and I’m sure he’ll add to what we’ve already started.”

O’Riley arrives to add competition to our central attacking midfield positions alongside Reo Hatate, Tom Rogic and David Turnbull.

It comes after the club had previously tried to sign Riley McGree, but O’Riley looks just as exciting a prospect, if not more so.

Most importantly he’s passed the Postecoglou test of wanting to come to the club and impress. He’ll need that hunger to establish himself in the first team.

O’Riley has been playing regularly in England so should be ready to come straight into the squad and could even make a debut against Alloa on Saturday, all things going well.

The player has already been pictured in the Hoops – which you can see on the official club Twitter account. He will wear squad number 33.
