Ange Postecoglou refused to be drawn on reported Celtic interest in Alistair Johnston today but did reaffirm his intent to have the Bhoys in a stronger position at the end of January.
Celtic have been widely reported to be on the brink of a move for Johnston in recent days, potentially becoming the club’s second signing of the winter transfer window.
The Bhoys boss was asked directly about that interest in today’s media conference but sidestepped that part of the question to deliver a message on January in general.

Postecoglou said [Celtic YouTube]: “Like I’ve always said, we want to be active and we’re constantly looking at opportunities. Every transfer window is another opportunity to get stronger and we want to try and do that.
“That doesn’t always mean bringing in players. Sometimes it just means not losing our best players or just being stronger in terms of the team developing. But if we’ve got an opportunity to bring players in who we think will make us stronger at the end of the window then that’s what we’ll do.
“We’ve still got a month to go until January and January itself. We’ll be active, for sure. When we see the right opportunity we’ll move on it.”
It’s shaping up to be a very intriguing transfer window for Celtic. With reports indicating potential moves for first-team players such as Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis, the Bhoys would undoubtedly source replacements should they leave.
In the meantime, Postecoglou will continue to add key talents to different areas of the squad, as demonstrated by the signing of Yuki Kobayashi.
We have no further clarity on Johnston, but he didn’t expressly rule it out when given the opportunity do so as well, so hopes remain high that one is close to completion.
