Read MoreArgentinian club make Diego Valoyes contract announcement after Celtic transfer rumour
The Celtic transfer link to Talleres attacker Diego Valoyes only just arrived, but it appears this rumour isn’t much of a goer after the Argentinian club announced this weekend that he’s signed a new contract.
The Daily Record had a one-line note in a report on Thursday night which alluded to Celtic interest in the 26-year-old Colombian, which was swiftly picked up by a number of other outlets and intrigued supporters on social media.
Overnight, Talleres issued a statement confirming that the winger had put pen to paper on a contract extension to 2025, one year beyond his previous deal that ran to 2024. They’ve said he’s been signed up on improved terms and dubbed him one of the best forwards in the country.
Diego Valoyes is attracting attention
Celtic aren’t the only club to have been linked with the Colombian international. La Voz reports big Argentinian teams such as Boca, River Plate and Racing Club have been interested in his services.
There’s always a chance this is a move by Talleres to protect an asset they intend to sell later this year but, for now, it’s fair to say that any imminent switch to Scotland isn’t on the cards.
Valoyes has helped his club up to fourth in the table this season, scoring two goals and assisting three times in 12 appearances. He was a stand-out in 2022, earning a call into the Colombia set-up, for whom he’s won six caps. He played against Hyeongyu Oh’s South Korea in the last international break.
We know Celtic are keeping a close eye on the South American market at the moment. Alexandro Bernabei arrived last summer, of course. He’s unlikely to be the last we go for as our transfer outlook becomes ever more global.
Transfer rumours are expected thick and fast this summer. The Bhoys have significant cash reserves, another season of guaranteed UEFA Champions League riches and more squad development to do under Ange Postecoglou. It could be an exciting time.
