Brendan Rodgers has already added five new names to his squad this summer and the Celtic boss has confirmed that he plans to add more before the transfer window closes.

The additions of Maik Nawrocki, Hyeokkyu Kwon, Hyunjun Yang, Marco Tillio and Odin Thiago Holm have added freshness and talent to a squad that had already delivered a treble last season. But Rodgers isn’t content on stopping there.

However, although the Celtic manager is keen to bring in more recruits, he has tempered any expectations that Celtic are prepared to splash millions to make a marquee signing this summer.

Rodgers said [Sky Sports], “We want to improve the squad has and everyone looks and thinks that we may be bringing in a £15-£20 million pound player. Now the reality is that that won’t be the case.

“It’s not what the club is based on but that doesn’t mean there’s not talented players out there that we want. So there’s still quite a way to go in the in the window. So we’ll look to improve the squad again and continue with that.

“We’ve done a lot of early business, which has been great and that allows the players to come in and settle. And of course, we want to do some more. But I’m quite calm in that. And as I said, the players that we have are working very well and we’ll look to bring some more in to help them.”

The positions Brendan Rodgers could look to strengthen

The recruitment this summer has really been focused primarily on strengthening the midfield and attacking options. Maik Nawrocki has been added to the defence which means that there are a couple of positions that the Celtic manager could yet address.

The goalkeeping department is something that we need to look at longer term. Hart has been excellent for us since joining two seasons ago but he cannot continue for ever at Celtic.

With Ben Siegrist and Scott Bain in reserve, it remains to be seen if Rodgers believes these two are good back up options never mind being in the frame to hold down the No 1 spot.

At the back, a right back may be another position the Celtic manager could look at. With the injuries to Anthony Ralston and Alistair Johnston causing an issue this preseason, we have been caught short at the back.

And up front, we may well add another striker to the ranks with only Kyogo and Hyeongyu Oh as our two striking options.

Whatever the Celtic boss decides to do, the fans can be sure that the next few weeks are going to busy as Rodgers looks to strengthen for the season ahead.
