Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t be drawn on speculation linking Celtic to Bojan Miovski this January but has stated he wants the club to get their business done early in the transfer window.

It was reported by The Scottish Sun earlier in the week that Celtic were looking at the Aberdeen striker as a potential January buy.

The Dons value him highly and it’s thought the Bhoys would need to break the transfer record between Scottish clubs to land the 24-year-old Macedonian.

Miovski has scored 12 goals in 25 appearances for Aberdeen in all competitions this term and was on the scoresheet again today as they beat Hearts 2-1 at Pittodrie.

Rodgers isn’t going to get pulled into a media game of commenting on every target that pops up but is looking forward to a busy month, with targets identified and work underway.

He said when asked about the Aberdeen star [Herald Sport, 09/12 print edition]: “I wouldn’t comment on any player. This is the period where agents throw out names and links so if I did it would be a long six weeks! There are certainly names and interest there. But we’ll have to wait and see.

“As a manager, you’d always prefer to get them in earlier rather than later. But we have the winter break and won’t play until the middle of January. Clearly, the sooner the better.

“The work is underway for the guys who haven’t been playing. Obviously, they’ll want to get out to play as quickly as possible. Our need for the squad is beside that.

“You first look to within the club and if there is anyone who can make that step into the first team. Then you look at if you bring someone in a permanent role, someone who can challenge the guys when they come back.

“Or are you bringing in a top-class loan, who will be with you for that period? That is then about availability. You have to plan forward. We can control what comes in. It has to work for us.”

As the manager notes, there will be movement out of the club, too. There are around nine prime candidates to say goodbye to the Bhoys this winter, either on loan or permanently.

Most fans, however, are looking for a refresh in the core match squad. There’s a hunger to add two or three quality players to the mix to up competition and keep the club progressing in the second half of th season.

Hopefully, the club can live up to Rodgers’ wish of getting deals done early.
