Carl Starfelt has been speaking for the first since leaving Celtic.
The Swedish international departed the Hoops after two successful years earlier this week to join La Liga outfit Celta Vigo. (Celta)
Starfelt has signed a four-year deal with the Galician club, and will now get to test himself against the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla domestically.
Much has been made of his reasons for leaving Celtic, with his partner Jacynta Galabadaarachchi’s recent transfer to Sporting Lisbon said to be a factor in the move.
But the defender has spoken only of the football opportunities on offer for him, in his first comments since leaving Celtic.
“I want to try myself in the Spanish league, which is one of the best competitions in the world,” he said. (Daily Record)

“I believe in the project that Celta is building; it seems very nice to me. I spoke with Luis Campos and the coach, and they both showed me their interest in to join this project.
“My first day here has been very good, I have had the opportunity to get to know the team, both my new teammates and the coaching staff. I really want to start.”
Celta teased a behind-the-scenes video covering Starfelt’s first few hours at the club. It will be released on Saturday and will feature a well-known face.
The end of the trailer sees Starfelt standing next to Rafa Benitez who just so happens to be the Celta Vigo manager.

Without meaning to speak for your knowledge of European football, Benitez’s arrival at Balaidos was not something I was previously aware of. The club clearly have decent aspirations with a man of his stature in charge.
Hopefully Starfelt makes a success of it in Spain. While it’s always disappointing to lose good Celtic players, we can only wish him all of the best for the future.
