Celtic will almost certainly be looking to strengthen the squad this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has already intimated that he will look to add quality to his squad in a bid to prepare for next season as the Celtic manager looks to continue to improve the Parkhead club’s fortunes in Europe.

With Celtic cash-rich, Rodgers can afford tp splash out to bring better players to Parkhead but, it seems, that the Hoops boss is also in the market for a bargain.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has shared how both Celtic and Rangers are looking to sign a young emerging midfield talent from Crystal Palace after he rejected a new deal at the Premier League club in February.

Celtic want Crystal Palace youngster Jesse Derry

Jesse Derry is an emerging talent at Crystal Palace who has recently rejected a deal to extend his stay at the club.

A player who Ange Postecoglou is said to be ‘very keen’ on, Derry is also attracting the attention of Premier League giants Chelsea.

However, it seems Celtic are looking to sign the youngster as O’Rourke reveals Rangers are also in the mix.

O’Rourke said on X, “Celtic and Rangers have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace’s England youth international Jesse Derry.

“Derry has turned down a pro deal at Palace and could leave for a compensation fee this summer.”

Celtic target Jesse Derry and his developing England career

Derry has yet to make a single first-team appearance for Crystal Palace, despite the youngster being on fire in the U18 Premier League.

In 27 appearances, the 17-year-old right winger has scored 20 goals and created five.

With eight caps for England U18 side, Derry has scored two goals for his country, including this winner in a friendly against Portugal U18s.

Clearly highly rated, if successful in capturing his signature, Celtic would only have to pay a development fee as Derry is yet to sign a full-time professional contract.
