Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has been talking up incoming Celtic signing Liam Shaw today.

Shaw will officially become a Celtic player on July 1st after the expiration of his contract at the Owls after coming to a pre-contract agreement with the Hoops.

It’s been a controversial saga for fans of the English Championship outfit. Shaw is a boyhood fan of the club and supporters had been hoping to see him reach his potential in blue and white.

That won’t be the case now, obviously, but Moore has insisted that Shaw still has a role to play at his current club between now and the end of the season.

As quoted by Yorkshire Live, he said in a press conference today: “I knew about the situation when I arrived at the football club. It’s something that happened before and was agreed before I joined the club. It was out of my control and something out of my remit.

“What I want to echo is that Liam is 100 per cent with this football club and he still has a part to play in this team for the remainder of the season. What’s gone on has gone on. We need to focus on the here and now.

“He’s really committed to the club and you’ve seen that commitment in the couple of games he has played. I don’t think it has affected him in any way. He’s a great human being and man. I have spoken to him. He is very, very committed and he is a top young, talented player.”

Liam Shaw showing ambition with Celtic move

Moore’s comments bode well for Shaw continuing his development prior to arrival at Celtic.

He’s already made 18 appearances this season, primarily in central midfield. However, he has displayed versatility with five matches in the centre of defence too.

Competition for central midfield places is fierce at the Bhoys and it’ll be fascinating to see if Shaw can make an immediate impact or will be a slow-burn signing similar to former Bolton player Luca Connell.

Regardless, it sounds like we’ll soon have an exciting prospect on our hands.

In other news, Neil Lennon has been linked with a management return in England.
