Whilst all the focus recently has been about players that Celtic will sign, Hoops boss Neil Lennon has also been keeping an eye on players likely to leave the squad.
He said, as reported by the BBC, that the current Celtic squad is too big, and “there is a bit of trimming” to do.
With that in mind, we have a look at three players who seem likely to leave the Hoops as the ‘trimming’ begins:
The midfielder has been a tad unfortunate with injury since joining the Hoops back in 2017. Despite that, he has failed to hold down a first-team place in that time. Celtic’s midfield has far too many players in it at the moment. Therefore, it would not be shock to see some midfielders leave between now and the end of the transfer window. Kouassi could be at the top of the list, although perhaps the club may consider a loan move rather than a permanent transfer.
The centre-back has struggled to win over the Celtic fans since joining the club from Dundee in 2018. He has not featured for the Hoops since Neil Lennon became manager – caretaker or permanently. The recent signing of Christopher Jullien has pushed the player even further down the pecking order at the club. Hendry needs to move on if he wants to play on a regular basis. That seems unlikely to happen at Celtic.
The Hoops left-back looks to be out of the picture following the recent signing of Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo. Miller is now arguably fourth choice left-back at the club. Similarly to Hendry, if he wants to play first-team football, he will have to move on. Miller spent last season on loan at Dundee and then Ayr United. It would be no shock to see the player depart again sooner rather than later.
