One of the biggest stories in Scottish football this week was undeniably Kilmarnock’s Europa League exit. The Rugby Park side lost to Welsh part-timers Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The defeat could affect Celtic in a few ways. Firstly, it does not help the coefficient of Scottish football at all. Therefore, it looks like the Hoops will continue to play four rounds of qualifiers to reach the Champions League for the foreseeable future.

Secondly, Kilmarnock’s defeat could impact Celtic in the transfer market. The Rugby Park side would have reportedly earned half a million Euros if they had knocked out Connah’s Quay and reached the second round of qualifying.

As that is not happening, perhaps they will look to recoup that money in the transfer market. Could that make them more willing to sell right-back Stephen O’Donnell?

The Hoops are in need of a right-back. It was reported back in May that Killie were ‘open to offers’ for the player as his contract only has a year left to run.

Could Celtic now swoop in and make their move for O’Donnell? He would have a chance of playing European football for the Hoops.

He has impressed in his time at Kilmarnock. A natural right-back is just what the Hoops need in the transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if Celtic decide to sign a player who it seems would be a natural fit in the Hoops squad.
