Celtic credited with interest in Lanus defender Julian Aude; Benfica also keen

Celtic continue to be linked with left-backs and this time it’s the turn of Argentina U20 international Julian Aude.

Last week, Celtic were said to have received positive scouting reports on another Argentinian, Francisco Ortega, who is also a left-sided defender.

Now the journalist who carried that story, The Scottish Daily Mail’s Stephen McGowan, has mentioned Aude as a player attracting interest from the Bhoys.

Speaking to Clyde 1 SuperScoreboard on Friday night, McGowan stated when talking about transfers: “They’re looking at a couple of left-backs, certainly in Argentina, Francisco Ortega is one. The other name we heard was Julian Aude of Lanus, who is in the U20 team.

“They’re casting the net wide and having a look all over the world. I think that’s what has changed, in terms of bringing in Japanese players under Ange Postecoglou, they’re looking at markets they haven’t necessarily looked at before.”

There has also been consistent reporting about Celtic interest in Hammarby star Mohanad Jeahze too, so it does feel like left-back is a real priority for the manager this summer.

Julian Aude is an emerging talent in Argentina

Aude, still just 19, has made 37 appearances for Argentinian top-flight club Lanus since a debut two years ago. However, he is currently found on the bench much of the time, behind regular starter and the slightly more senior Alexandro Bernabei.

European scouts are showing interest though clearly and it’s not just Celtic. Benfica have also been linked with Aude by sports newspaper Ole in his homeland.

Funnily enough, it’s also been said by that outlet they are sweet on Ortega too – so perhaps there’s some scouting crossover here with the Bhoys.

Despite inconsistent selection at club level, he’s recently been featuring for the Argentina U20s side after being brought into the squad by Barcelona defensive legend Javier Mascherano in March.

As always with the initial link to players, there’s a massive amount of distance between this interest and Aude becoming a Celtic man, but add him to your transfer tracker if that’s your kind of thing!
