Celtic could rake in a lot of money in the summer, despite this campaign going horribly wrong.
Two Celtic players who seemingly have big price tags over their heads are the midfield duo of Arne Engels and Benjamin Nygren.
It is well documented that Celtic fended off heavy interest in Engels back in the winter, batting away big-money bids from Nottingham Forest.
Now, the transfer rumour mill has turned to Celtic’s top-scorer, who is reportedly wanted by top-flight English clubs for a fee in the region of ‘£20 million.’
When discussing the situation on Open Goal, Si Ferry posed a tough hypothetical to his panel: ‘If you could only sell one of Engels or Nygren for £20 million, who would it be?’ Interestingly, every single pundit agreed they would rather cash in on the Belgian star.
Andy Halliday: “I would sell Engels out of the two. What has Nygren scored? It’s mental all the criticism he has had, and Celtic could potentially get £20 million for him.”
Scott Allan: “I would sell Engels.”
Pick one player to sell for ‘£20m’ this summer. Engels or Nygren?
Who you picking and why, Celtic fans…

Open Goal panel state they would sell Arne Engels over Benjamin Nygren for ‘£20 million’
Celtic couldn’t sell Engels in January, given the difficult and awkward situation the club was in, and still is, to be honest.
But it’s fair to say that if any significant fee of note is put on the table for the set-piece specialist in the summer, then Celtic have to sell.
Either way, it’s interesting that both players during their time in Glasgow have divided opinion, even though Nygren is one goal away from hitting 20 in his debut campaign.
Yet, as Halliday pointed out, they could generate Celtic ‘£50 million’ in the summer, and Ferry added, ‘you would take that in a minute.’
Ferry: “If you got offered £20 million for Nygren in the summer, or you got offered £20 million for Engels, who would you sell?”
Halliday: “I would sell Engels out of the two. What has Nygren scored? It’s mental all the criticism he has had, and Celtic could potentially get £20 million for him.”
Ferry: “He gets a lot more criticism than Engels, for me. Why is that?”
Allan: “It’s the eye test thing. I think they want more from him.”
Halliday: “A lot of people get frustrated and feel like he doesn’t get involved enough in the middle of the pitch.”
Allan: “That’s a skill in itself. Being able to be disciplined. Stay away from the ball and just make the box. It’s an art arriving in the box and scoring goals.”
Ferry: “Who would you sell?”
Allan: “I would sell Engels.”
Paul Slane: “I would sell them both.”
Halliday: “I am not being funny, but if Celtic can get £50 million for Engels and Nygren.”
Ferry: “Aye, you would take that in a minute.”
Engels and Nygren’s stats at Celtic
This is Engels’ second full season at Celtic, and after arriving for a club record transfer of £11 million in 2024, he has always been beaten with that transfer stick.
But that’s the pressure of playing for a club like Celtic.
On the other hand, Nygren will be feeling that he has done his job, and that’s score, score, and score again. It’s his game. To be efficient and not get involved as much, it’s not his fault that everything around him is broken.
- Engels’ games: 91
- Goals: 15
- Assists: 20
- Trophies: 2
- Nygren’s games: 51
- Goals: 19
- Assists: 8
