Celtic are in the midst of the January window merry-go-round and could be set for some late drama before the deadline.

Brendan Rodgers has managed to add winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna for around £3 million. However, the former Germany Under-20 international is the Hoops’ only confirmed arrival at the time of writing.

Nevertheless, Celtic look to be closing in on Norwich City striker Adam Idah, who is expected to join on loan for the rest of the campaign [Anthony Joseph].

Sydney van Hooijdonk has agreed a deal to head to the Canaries on a similar basis, paving the way for the Republic of Ireland international to arrive at Parkhead.

On the flip side, reports suggest that David Turnbull could leave the Scottish Premiership holders, with Cardiff City keen to sign the Scotland international this month.

Contact is believed to have been established between both parties regarding the 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Mikey Johnston may also be on his way out before Thursday’s cut-off point after Championship pair West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City expressed their interest in his services.

Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke keen to seal exit

Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke has been the subject of interest from Serie A side Lecce this window after failing to nail down a regular starting slot under Rodgers.

Reports indicated earlier this week that the Sweden international was set to depart Glasgow on an initial loan deal to the Italian outfit containing an option for them to buy him at the end of the campaign.

Despite this, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has now delivered an update on the situation, detailing that Celtic have paused his move due to a fresh injury concern involving Cameron Carter-Vickers.

In a fresh development, the 23-year-old has now gone public to signal his intention to leave the club before the deadline.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, the defender stated: “Lecce has shown a very strong interest in me. I want to go, play and make a difference.

“All footballers dream of playing in the big leagues. And I – says the defender – have dreamed of Serie A since I was a child. Many Scandinavian footballers have played in Lecce; this would be an advantage in terms of settling in.”

Gustaf Lagerbielke is in a strange situation at Celtic

Signed for £3 million last summer, Lagerbielke has gone on to make just nine appearances across all competitions for Celtic, scoring once in a victory over Feyenoord in the Champions League [Transfermarkt].

Truthfully, his situation with the Scottish Premiership holders now seems to have turned into a bit of a mess as he looks to seal a late exit before the market closes for business.

Hopefully, both parties can professionally resolve the matter; nevertheless, it is unclear whether he will be a Celtic player come Friday, and that isn’t an ideal scenario for anyone to be in.

One can’t help but wonder what his state of mind may be like if he remains at Parkhead; however, we will need to wait and see how this one plays out.
