Celtic do not need to sign another goalkeeper in January window

When considering the transfer business that Celtic might do in the January window, there are obvious areas of the team that need to be improved on. The forward department, for a start, could do with the addition of at least one extra striker.

A winger could provide some competition to James Forrest. Another centre-back is also a possibility, you would imagine.

However, there is one area of the team that Celtic do not need to improve on, or buy any players in during the January window.

One of the best in Britain

That is the goalkeeping position. Celtic are fortunate to have one of the best goalkeepers in Britain at the club until the end of the season in Fraser Forster. He proved his worth on plenty of occasions this season, and will be a key man for Celtic in the hunt for trophies in the second-half of the campaign.

Scott Bain is a more than capable back-up goalkeeper. His future at the club is secured after he signed a long-term deal with the club last years. So Celtic have two goalkeepers definitely at the club for the rest of the season.

That might not be the case with Craig Gordon. His contract expires at the end of the season. However, if a decent bid came in for the player in January, it would not be a shock to see him leave the club. Should he stay though, he is also, like Bain a more than capable replacement for Forster if needed.

Conor Hazard, who has played Championship level football this season is also at the club, and is a player who could be a Celtic regular in the future.

The situation might well change at the club next season. Especially as we don’t yet know where Fraser Forster’s future lies. For the moment though, Celtic are well-stocked in the goalkeeping department.
