Celtic ‘exploring’ Nacho Laquintana deal with Columbus Crew duo also on radar

Celtic’s January transfer business is already underway.

Julian Araujo is in the building already, signing on a loan deal from Bournemouth to give Wilfried Nancy a much-needed wing-back option.

But for now, this is just a start. Nancy is still reportedly after multiple centre backs, with a striker being another obvious priority.

He has enough on his plate already, with the small matter of a Glasgow Derby against Rangers today.

But behind the scenes, work is still ongoing to help his playing squad.

Should Julian Araujo be thrown straight in for a debut against Rangers?

If nothing else, Nancy’s extraordinary press conference on Friday was proof that he wasn’t willing to go down without a fight.

And if he is to win his war with the Scottish media, he’ll need some help in the window.

One potential reinforcement is Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Laquintana, a winger/wing-back who plays for Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil.

According to the Mail, Celtic are currently ‘exploring’ a deal to sign the 26-year-old, who scored on his debut for Uruguay late last year.

He made 13 league starts for Bragantino last year, appearing ten times from the bench as they finished tenth in the Brasileirao.

Additionally, the report also mentions that Diego Rossi and Wessam Abou Ali both remain on Nancy’s radar for a potential reunification.

Neither would come cheap, with both on lucrative ‘designated player’ contracts at the Ohio club. Rossi is a number 10, while Ali is an out-and-out striker.

Ali is also reportedly on the radar of Trabzonspor, while Rossi is said to be keen on following Nancy to Glasgow.

Wilfried Nancy on Celtic transfers

Speaking after the team’s 4-2 win over Livingston, Nancy discussed the attributes he prioritises when signing players.

The Hoops boss said: “For me personality is key. We have a lot of ability in terms of the way we play.

“But it is important when you sign players that they need to have that personality.

“This is a big club. To play here is not always easy. So it is so important to have players who can play here at a club like this.

“When I talk about personalities, it’s not only about being vocal either. It’s about having the right attitude when things are difficult.

“This means when we attack, can we keep showing ourselves for each other, can we still press or can we defend like crazy in the moment?

“It’s more about the attitude for me. This is what I am looking for.”
