Celtic fans delighted as Giorgos Giakoumakis joins

Celtic fans are delighted with the signing of Giorgos Giakoumakis on a five-year deal.

The club announced within the last hour that Giakoumakis had signed on the dotted line. With Griffiths departing for Dundee, and Crystal Palace likely to announce Odsonne Edouard’s signing shortly, a striker was sorely needed.

The Bhoys fended off interest from Werder Bremen and Qatari clubs to bring Giakoumakis to Parkhead.

It’s a move that has appeased supporters after 18 hours of quiet this Transfer Deadline Day. Despite Giakoumakis being our tenth signing this summer, the supporters are clear: more players need to bolster this squad.

The saga over Giakoumakis was a lengthy one. Rumours of a Celtic move for the striker surfaced weeks ago, and for a while it looked off, with Werder Bremen in the lead to sign him.

Now, though, Celtic have their man.

As per usual, fan reaction on social media was swift. The consensus seems to be that Giakoumakis to Celtic is a fine deal, but that the club still need to do more.

Some even hinted at previous Japanese/Greek partnerships of the past.

With more business expected today, it’s unlikely the majority of Celtic supporters will have their phones off until the midnight deadline.
