Anthony Ralston has always been a squad player at Celtic, and that role was recently called out by Frank McAvennie.
Come the summer, Ralston will have 12 months remaining on his Celtic contract, and you wonder what will happen to his future.
After McAvennie, who enjoyed two separate spells with the Scottish champions, admitted he couldn’t tolerate sitting on the bench as much as Ralston does, 67 Hail Hail put the question straight to our Talking Points audience.
We asked: ‘Does Anthony Ralston have a future at Celtic?’ And many of you were brutal and straight to the point with your comments.
First of all, here is a brief look at McAvennie’s comments on Ralston: “They (Celtic) will keep Ralston because he has been there since he was a boy. He isn’t going anywhere. Just as a back-up.
“I couldn’t stay as a back-up. I don’t know about you guys. In football, if somebody says, ‘We are going to keep you. You are the third or fourth choice.’”

Celtic fans debate whether Anthony Ralston has a future
Not even Ralston will argue that Alistair Johnston is Celtic’s starting right-back, but you also have Colby Donovan breaking through this season.
Logic suggests that Celtic should push with those two going forward, and that leaves the Scotland international not even making the bench if everyone is fit.
That’s why many of you feel Ralston needs to leave, with Callum.Boyle65 being straight to the point by stating, ‘he hasn’t been good enough for years.’
Moscowvici labelled the versatile defender a ‘passenger’ and someone who is a ‘very mediocre player.’
Ralston has always given his all into the famous green and white colours, but unfortunately, it seems as though you all agree that he needs to part ways.
The verbal takedowns didn’t stop there, with DavidIrvine701 telling Ralston his ‘time is up’, and WilliamHartley61 calling him ‘rotten.’
While SteveCargill64 believes that Ralston, who has also played on loan at Queens Park, Dundee United and St Johnstone in the early part of his career, should move to a ‘smaller club.’
- terrymcerlane: ‘Who is McAvennie to comment, left Celtic first chance he got.’
- callum.boyle65: ‘Needs to leave. Hasn’t been good enough for years, is the fourth choice and keeping him around for sentimentality isn’t worth it.’
- moscowvici: ‘Sadly, no, he does not. He’s a passenger and a very mediocre player. He’s played his part and we ought to be grateful for this.’
- davidirvine701: ‘No, time is up.’
- williamhartley61: ‘No way he is rotten.’
- stevecargill64: ‘Yes, he’s given us good service, time to play week in week out, at a smaller club now.’
- williamhartley61: ‘No chance. The Bhoy doesn’t have a clue how to defend, always falling over his own feet.’
