Celtic have just poured oil on the fire with that statement.
It has been clear for everyone to see that the Celtic fans have had enough with the people running the club after an abject 2025 summer transfer window.
This just isn’t about what has or hasn’t happened this summer, but how Brendan Rodgers has been backed, full stop.
That’s why there have been chants of ‘sack the board’ coming from the terraces, and Celtic tried to dampen the noise by releasing a statement on Saturday evening, but it has made matters worse.

Celtic fans react to club statement over transfer dealings
When Celtic put the statement out, it was bombarded with messages from disgruntled and frustrated supporters on social media, including how the powers that be don’t want to take responsibility for their actions.
From having a dig at Rangers, pointing towards UEFA’s financial ruling, and even being critical of the media for how they have reported transfer news.
Everything and everyone seemed to take verbal hits or the blame, but no responsibility from those running the show, and that just angered supporters even more.
@GrandAuldTeam_ questioned Celtic, suggesting that UEFA’s financial and sustainability ruling is an obstacle: ‘Transfers and wages must meet UEFA sustainability? Our net spend is +£20 million in the last 5 years.’
@babysoftluke described Celtic’s statement as ‘unreal’: The worst excuse in here is the, “we know the Champions League dates and we know we didn’t make any signings for that, but it was other people and not our fault”…unreal.’
@drago_el_diablo was rightfully critical of the club for not bringing players in earlier enough: ‘Operating within the FFP regs does not at all affect the club’s inability to sign players early or prepare for potential outgoings… this is gaslighting at its finest.’
@StandForCeltic just used three words: ‘SACK THE BOARD.’
@celtic_jaime told the higher-ups to face the fans: ‘Instead of words, can you use action & face supporters because this doesn’t wash at all.’
@frusinate1888 couldn’t help but laugh: ‘Unreal lads 😂.’
@dtaylor5633 wanted to highlight one part of the statement: ‘“Including selling clubs seeking fees beyond our valuation” A total gold nugget there, like. It’s up to the selling club to set their price regardless of how the buyer values the product. It’s not up to the buying club to set the value.’
@ScottishHodler thinks matters have been made ‘worse’: ‘You’ve somehow managed to make it worse. Bravo.’
@theoldgovanarm1 wasn’t happy that there was zero accountability from the Celtic board members: ‘Not once in this statement have they accepted in any way that there may be issues with them and how they conduct transfers. It seems it’s everyone else’s fault. It’s amazing how other clubs seem to manage. Just a lot of words. Clearly written by someone who has no connection to the fans.’
@GbhoyDownUnder used two words to describe what he had just read: ‘Absolutely pathetic.’
@jack3djohn only needed one word to describe the statement: ‘Atrocious.’
@badcorpse explained what the ‘worst’ thing about Celtic’s statement is: ‘The worst thing about this statement is you know the people behind it now think the job is done and the fans will just move on.’
This season ticket holder didn’t hold back, as @Yoineedplatesyt stated: ‘Desmond. Lawwell. Nicholson. Your time is up — and the rest of the board should follow you out the door. This latest statement is pure deflection and gaslighting. I pay thousands every year for season tickets. My message is simple: GET OUT OF OUR CLUB. SACK THE BOARD.’
Another Celtic fan who mentioned that everyone else got the blame, but the board members themselves, as @dtaylor5633 added: ‘It appears that the statement’s purpose was one thing, to blame everyone else for your incompetence in the transfer market without looking at yourselves.’
@67_Celtic_1888 questioned ‘where is the ambition’ with this rant: ‘Garbage. We haven’t strived to make the squad as strong as it can be… Coming off the back of a successful CL campaign, we couldn’t have asked for an easier playoff & should’ve strengthened before it! We decide to cash in & play safe. Where’s the ambition!?!? 🍀’
@garydoc777 changed the argument towards Celtic Park: ‘IF the reserve funds are apparently not factored into transfers, but are more focused on infrastructure as you claim….why has VERY LITTLE reconstruction or redesign or improvement been reflected in the Celtic Park stadium?’
The new Celtic players who have extra pressure on their shoulders
The problem the Celtic board have created is that certain new faces coming in now have to perform straight away because of how poorly everything else has been run.
This isn’t a time for project-like signings to take their time to settle in, but to produce the goods pretty quickly, or else, there will be problems.
One of the areas of most intense pressure and huge concern is the forward areas, as the new Bhoys need to follow in Benjamin Nygren’s footsteps.
If the following players can step up, ASAP, then it helps Rodgers’ cause so much:
- Benjamin Nygren
- Michel-Ange Balikwisha
- Sebastian Tounekti
- Shin Yamada
