Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou believes the club are set for a ‘hectic’ final fortnight of the transfer window, providing expectations for both incoming and outgoing deals.
It’s been close to a month since the club announced the double acquisition of Moritz Jenz and Aaron Mooy. Similarly, the last first-team exit was Boli Bolingoli back on July 12th.
The lack of activity is hardly making supporters unruly, with most recognising a lot of work was done earlier in the summer, but it’s fair to say that everyone would like to see one or two more players added to the pool. Postecoglou agrees with that assessment and is prepping for a busy end to August.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said: “There are one or two areas that I would like to bring in, but it has to be the right sort of players. We are definitely still active and looking at what options may be available.
“In general, I think this transfer window is going to be pretty hectic in the last couple of weeks. I suggest there could be some opportunities there for us.
“In terms of outgoings, there are players who aren’t getting a lot of opportunities. I am not having discussions with anyone on a daily basis on what their future should be, as that’s really up to them. I am not one to try and convince people to stay, and I am not going to persuade anyone to go. But the reality is that some people will get fewer opportunities, and if that’s not sufficient for them, then they can explore other opportunities.”
It sounds like Celtic and Postecoglou are waiting on a bit of shake-up in the market elsewhere, which could create chances for the Bhoys to capitalise on.
The manager stressed earlier in the week he’s looking for players who can contribute over the long term. That can be difficult, and expensive, to sort out. Especially if the manager is keen for them to compete for first-team places immediately.
Nonetheless, after a slow month in the market, it seems things could be about to get a bit more exciting for supporters with shifting those on the fringes of the squad sure to be warmly welcomed too.
