A deal for Celtic to sign Lorent Tolaj this summer would reportedly cost around £3 million.

But they’ll have to fight if they want to win the race for the Plymouth Argyle striker, with a host of English clubs in the race.

Celtic’s interest in Tolaj was first reported in January, but Argyle held on to the Swiss in the hope that his goals would help them to promotion to the Championship.

This ultimately wasn’t the case, leaving Plymouth helpless in the face of an inevitable sale this summer.

Plymouth Argyle slap £3 million asking price for Lorent Tolaj

According to the Lancashire Post, any deal to sign the 24-year-old striker this summer would cost around £3 million.

Preston North End, Leicester City, Stoke City and Swansea City are all in the race along with the Hoops.

Tolaj finished the season as Plymouth’s top scorer with 22 goals in all competitions. He moved to Home Park for £1.2 million.

Having moved to Brighton from FC Sion as a teenager, Tolaj has mostly spent his career in the EFL, including at Cambridge United and Salford City.

He also had a short spell at Dundee – in which he struggled to make an impact in Scotland’s second tier – and spent time at non-league Aldershot Town.

Tolaj’s teammate, Aribim Pepple is also reportedly being watched by Celtic, having enjoyed his own solid season of goalscoring.

Pepple reportedly has a release clause in his contract — Celtic have activated the release clause of a League One player before with Matt O’Riley… that didn’t work out too badly.

Tolaj is one of the best players in the division, whilst Pepple is more of a prospect. Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley has discussed their respective situations.

Thoughts Celtic fans? 🤔

Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley on Celtic-linked Lorent Tolaj and Aribim Pepple

Cleverley said of the duo earlier this year: “It’s rightly so [that] they should be recognised for what they are doing.

“At this level your players will always be linked with clubs in higher leagues or different European leagues.

“They have both got good mentalities to have tunnel vision. They know their job.

“They have got high ambitions both individually and collectively at this football club, and neither of them have got any appetite to leave the football club.”
