It seems that Celtic may be interested in bringing a former club hero back to Celtic Park. The Scottish Sun is reporting that the Hoops are set to ‘inquire’ about the Southampton goalkeeper.

The Hoops are need of a new goalkeeper because of an injury suffered by Scott Bain. Bain’s injury status is currently a mystery. The Scottish Sun claims he could be out of action for two months with a hand injury.

Manager must clear up injury situation

However, the Evening Times reports that he may miss only one game with the injury. Hopefully Neil Lennon clears the situation up at his next press conference.

If the Hoops are on the lookout for a goalkeeper, Forster could be a good option. However, the question has to be asked about his current abilities as a goalkeeper.

He may not be the same player he was when he memorably helped Celtic defeat Barcelona 2-1 in 2012. He lost his place in the Southampton first-team, and played only one game last season.

Loan deal may be best option

Perhaps a loan deal would be the best option for the Hoops in this case. If Forster returns to Celtic and shows that he is still a great goalkeeper, then a move to a permanent deal could be sorted.

There is no doubt that on his day Forster was an excellent goalkeeper. However, there has to be a concern that those days are gone.
