Celtic will be in the market this summer for a new goalkeeper due to the fact that Joe Hart has announced his decision to retire at the end of the campaign.

The former England international will remain focused on his remaining 11 league matches left to play as the Bhoys continue their Scottish Premiership title charge.

Nevertheless, Hart has revealed that his desire not to fall away due to age-based decline played a big part in his choice to call time on a distinguished career.

He stated last week: “I really do feel like come gameday, I really do peak. But I’m aware that time waits for no man, and I don’t want my body to be retiring me. So that was one of the key factors, thinking that I can smash through the finishing line.”

At the time of writing, the 36-year-old has made 139 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions, keeping 59 clean sheets and claiming five trophies during his time north of the border [Transfermarkt].

Regardless, Celtic will soon need to turn their attention towards filling the void that Hart will leave come the summer.

Reports yesterday indicated that Liverpool’s number two Caoimhin Kelleher has emerged as a target for Brendan Rodgers; however, one suspects that he won’t be the only goalkeeper linked with a move to Parkhead in the coming months.

Ugurcan Cakir would be a statement signing from Celtic

Celtic thrive with an experienced figure between the sticks, and Cakir possesses the sort of pedigree that would make him a statement addition.

As per FBRef, the Antalya-born man has obtained a save percentage of 72.4% in the Super Lig this team, conceding an average of 1.19 goals per match.

Like many transfer rumours involving the Hoops, finances will dictate whether he is within reach; nevertheless, it is exciting to see the club doing their due diligence on targets.
