Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has reinforcements on his radar as the Bhoys look to strengthen once the January transfer window opens.

Earlier today, 67 Hail Hail told that the Bhoys could land Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diawara for half-price as his side look to recoup funds to deal with crippling financial problems that have landed them provisional relegation to Ligue 2.

Midfield appears to be an area that Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster, with Celtic also monitoring Motherwell’s Lennon Miller as the January transfer window approaches.

Of course, this time of year is when transfer stories tend to pick up. Despite hopes for an early Christmas present, supporters should be aware that some may merely be the beginning of the merry-go-round.

With the Bhoys potentially having the carrot of Champions League football to dangle in front of prospective new recruits, another compelling target has come to attention.

Celtic keen on Ajax midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Celtic are one of several clubs interested in Ajax midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic as the January transfer window veers closer to opening time.

Having recently changed agency, the Bosnia & Herzegovina international may prefer a return to Serie A, with Lazio and Fiorentina among the sides on high alert as he seeks an exit from the Eredivisie.

PAOK Thessaloniki are also in pursuit, while Celtic monitor his situation and may have to convince the 21-year-old that a move to Scotland is the best option for his career at this point.

Suffering from a lack of game time in the Netherlands, Tahirovic has made just two competitive appearances for Ajax this season.

What has Jose Mourinho said about Tahirovic?

Predominantly, Tahirovic is a deeper-lying midfielder who would feasibly compete with Callum McGregor for minutes at Celtic.

In October, 67 Hail Hail profiled the midfielder as one of five potential targets for the Bhoys in January after he created 17 chances and had a pass accuracy rate of 88.7% in the Eredivisie across 2023/24.

With his search for regular football ongoing, Celtic could be the perfect outpost for him to re-enter the first-team fold.

Tahirovic played for AS Roma during Jose Mourinho’s stint in Serie A and the iconic manager had his say about the talisman at the time.

He said: “Tahirovic will be a great player, a great player.

“Until I am here, I will never stop giving these opportunities because it’s something Roma, as a club, need. He is one more player for me. The hope is that with time can catch the starters. He has quality.”
