Celtic are one of the clubs credited with interest in Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller after bursting onto the Scottish Premiership scene but there is a lot of work ahead of him before he earns a big move anywhere.
Miller made fleeting substitute appearances for the Steelmen last season, including against Celtic, but his big breakthrough has come this term with nine top-flight starts and five further selections in the Scottish League Cup.
TEAMtalk reports this weekend that has put him on the radar of several English Premier League sides such as Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Celtic are also said to be ‘keeping tabs’ on his progress.
The Bhoys are naturally well aware of him anyway, especially considering he started against Brendan Rodgers’ side in a dramatic 2-1 win for the Bhoys in September.
Still just 17, Miller is very highly rated at Motherwell and he could well be their next big homegrown export after the multi-million-pound sale of David Turnbull to Celtic in 2020.
Important context on any Celtic interest in Lennon Miller
The Fir Park side are so enamoured with him that they just secured him to a new contract, extending his previous deal by a year and tying him down until the summer of 2026.
That’s despite the youngster suffering a broken patella against Aberdeen at the start of the month, an injury that has ruled him out for at least the next three months.
That likely ends any chance of him leaving Motherwell in January and any prospective clubs will be eager to see how he responds to a nasty knee injury before investing in his future.
Miller has made it clear he’s happy to stay at the club for now, regardless. Motherwell would likely be the best place for him to get regular top-flight football and progress his game.
If he finds consistency over months and even years, that’s when Celtic could come calling. For now, let the kid recover and then let him play.
