Reported Celtic target Vinicius Souza already has several “concrete offers” on the table according to the player’s agent.

Souza has just come off a big season on loan in Belgium after making 35 appearances for Mechelen. It’s been reported by the Daily Mail that the player is set for another temporary departure next season with Celtic having scheduled talks.

But Souza apparently already has several offers on the table. His agent, Joao Carlos, provided a summation of how the picture looks for his client just last month. Evidently, interest was already sky-high.

As quoted by Het Nieuwsblad, Souza said: “He’s in for an important month. There are three concrete offers on the table. One from a Belgian top club, one from a Dutch top club and one from Italy. There is also interest from Germany and England.

“With his unique profile, Vinicius is currently very well positioned in the market. All over Europe, there are clubs looking for a strong number six with a big technical background. Now it’s up to me to collect the best options and present them to him. As a player, he and his family always have the last word.”

Vinicius Souza appears to have a plethora of options ahead of reported Celtic talks

Souza certainly appears to have enough options on the table after his loan season. Given he’s likely to be heading out on loan again next term, he’ll have to consider his options carefully.

A regular theme for Celtic during their negotiations this summer will be the fact that we have Champions League football next season. Not many clubs will be able to offer Souza that opportunity.

But regardless of what he chooses to do next season, this rumour in particular perhaps gives us an indication of exactly what it is Ange wants in his new midfielder.

It looks as though Souza would be more along the lines of a Bitton replacement than a Rogic one. Another holding midfielder to challenge the likes of Yosuke Ideguchi could be on the cards here.

In order for that to be Souza, it’s evident that we have a lot of competition to compete with here. Cost, as well as player ambition, will be telling. The chance to go immediately from Belgian football to Celtic Park and the UCL would have to be considered a major step-up.

It’s all there for him to go and shoot himself to the next level at Parkhead. We certainly have an enticing package to offer our transfer targets this summer. A real plus-point for us regardless of how this one goes.
