Philip Zinckernagel has revealed that Celtic were one of the teams interested in signing him on a free transfer this month.
The former Bodo/Glimt winger has signed for Watford after an incredible 2020 in the Norwegian top-flight.
We actually profiled the player earlier this week, out of hope more than having any information of Celtic interest in the player.
However, it appears his contributions similarly impressed the Celtic recruitment team.
We were one of the clubs after him.
As quoted by The Daily Record, the Danish winger said: “I could have chosen to go to clubs where I would have earned more money. I preferred the sporting challenge to money. Not that it’s a bad package I’ve got at Watford and it’s a five-and-a-half-year contract.
“I had offers from clubs in Turkey, the Netherlands, Schalke in Germany, France, Saudi Arabia and a lot in Eastern Europe. And additionally, Celtic were also involved.
“I had to make a decision before Brexit, and I got the best feeling at Watford.”
Perfect for Celtic
Zinckernagel would have been a potentially brilliant signing.
He scored a phenomenal 22 goals in Norway last year, also contributing a ridiculous 24 assists (Transfermarkt).
Those are obscene numbers for a winger. He is more than ready for a step up in his career.
Celtic just so happy to need a winger too. An injury to James Forrest has left us short. There’s no guarantee he will be fully match fit until well into 2021.

Ultimately the player has made a personal decision, not based on money, but with a desire to make it to the English Premier League. We can’t fault Celtic on this one.
It’ll be fascinating to see how he does with promotion-chasing Watford.
In other news, Kieran Tierney has been speaking about Celtic again.
