Celtic may have to resurrect interest in Ankersen as transfer search goes on

Celtic’s search for a right-back does not seem to be ending any time soon. The Hoops have been linked with more than a few players in the position.

However, so far, there has been no replacement signed for Mikael Lustig. As the situation gets more desperate, the Hoops may need to resurrect their interest in players they reportedly had dropped their interest in.

One such player is Copenhagen right-back Peter Ankersen.

Interest had reportedly ‘cooled’

It had been reported recently by the Daily Record that Celtic had an interest in the player, but it had ‘cooled’.

However, the likes of Tommy Smith and Jack Stacey have not joined the Hoops. Therefore, Celtic may well have to make a move for the player.

Ankersen was a regular for Copenhagen last season, making 47 appearances. As he only has one year left on his contract, you would think that the Hoops wouldn’t have to break the bank for him.

Player’s age may be an issue

Perhaps the issue is the player’s age. He is 28 and won’t have much of a sell-on value in the future. However, the need for a new right-back is more important than that.

Perhaps the Hoops will finally sign a right-back after they book their place in the next round of the Champions League qualifiers.

Ankersen may well be the player to solve a problem which is defining Celtic’s transfer window.
