With you look at the problems Celtic have had in certain positions of the side, it has to be said that some of the club’s transfer business this summer could have been handled better.

For example, take the position of right-back. After an interminable search, Hatem Abd Elhamed arrived at the club.

So far, he has done reasonably well. But he has struggled with knocks and injuries in his brief time at the club. Indeed, he is a doubt for the Europa League clash against AIK.

With that in mind, perhaps the Hoops would have been better off giving a new contract to Mikael Lustig, who left the club in the summer to join Gent.

There is no doubt that Lustig is coming towards the end of his career. His performances may not have been as good as they once were.

Performed well in second-half of last season

However, in the second-half of last season, he seemed to play like a player with a new lease of life. However, despite winning a host of trophies with the Hoops, he couldn’t agree a new deal with the club.

It was something he wasn’t happy about. As a result, he left the club in the summer. Lustig could have been a more than useful player to have in the ranks even if he wasn’t first choice this season.

However, it was not to be. Now the Hoops may be forced into a positional change against AIK.
