Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is confident the club will do business in the final week of the summer transfer window, suggesting that they are looking for match-winning “magic” in the market.

Celtic are in the process of bouncing back from a shock cup defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock on Sunday, a match which Rodgers feels the club should have had a strong foothold in early doors.

As the match at Rugby Park wore on, the lack of creativity and guile in the attacking third was a real issue and that’s one of the things that the manager is looking to address.

Speaking about strengthening the Celtic squad in a media conference today, Rodgers said: “Yeah, I think we’ll do that before the end of the window.

“I think the game last week, we could have been 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes of the game, but after that – and especially after Kilmarnock went in front – we just didn’t have that little bit of finesse and those little moments of magic that you need to break down teams that are low on the field. So, we’re hoping that we can do that over the course of the coming days.”

On the subject of specific links to winger Luis Palma reported in the press, Rodgers was tight-lipped, stating: “I think we need to improve the squad, but there’s no confirmation on names. There’s been lots of names that have been floated about. As soon as we sign anyone, we’ll let you know.”

Also confirming that the club are now on the lookout for another central defensive option, it’s clear that Celtic are going to be busy before the window shuts.

However, the manager also said that he doesn’t expect any new arrivals in the door before this weekend’s match against St Johnstone, so it’ll be a familiar waiting game for fans over the coming days.

In the end, hopefully, we are all happy.
