Graham Alexander appreciates Celtic working quickly to help Motherwell sort out a loan move for Liam Shaw, who is confirmed to have joined the Fir Park side for the rest of the season.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man arrived at Celtic last summer but has found first-team opportunities limited under Ange Postecoglou.

Now he’ll get the chance to show what he can do with a top-six side in the Scottish Premiership ahead of a return to the Bhoys squad in the summer.

Liam Shaw heads out on Celtic development loan

Alexander is pleased to bring him on board and, speaking to The Scottish Sun, reckons Shaw has a long-term future at Celtic: “We see Liam as fitting in. He is motivated and it was a quick deal with Celtic, so we appreciate that and he’s ready.

“I think midfield is where he is best suited. We have brought him here to compete with the others at the club. I didn’t see him at Sheffield Wednesday but I’ve seen him up here a couple of times.

“We have done our analysis on him and I think he is really suited to how we play. Celtic obviously see him getting in their first team at some point and they value him highly. But they see an opportunity for him to compete and get in our first team.”

It’s promising to hear Shaw is still very much in Ange Postecoglou’s long-term plans. It would have been too soon to send the midfielder away on anything but a development loan.

Shaw has raw attributes that could develop into something useful for Celtic. Right now the chance of regular football and an opportunity to impress in the division is spot on.

Good luck Liam!
