Celtic are reportedly involved in a battle with a host of Premier League clubs to sign a veteran striker. The Sun is reporting that the Hoops are interested in signing free agent attacker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The report claims that the Premier League trio of West Ham, Sheffield United and Watford are interested in the player, as well as the Hoops.

A signing like Adebayor would be against Celtic’s transfer policy in recent years. Aside from Kolo Toure, the Hoops have shied away from signing veteran players.

Perhaps Neil Lennon feels that Adebayor can do a job for the side though. In Lennon’s first spell as Celtic boss, he did try to sign some veteran players – Sol Campbell and David James, for example.

However, the Premier League sides interested in the former Real Madrid striker could offer him more money than Celtic can.

Could get more money in Premier League

That could make the move a non-starter right away. The player also might not fancy a move to Scotland when the Premier League provides far more glamour.

Celtic currently have three strikers in the first-team squad. Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths, and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

Maybe Lennon feels that the addition of one more forward is just what the squad needs. If he can recover the form he showed earlier in his career, Adebayor would be a fine addition to the Celtic squad.
