Celtic have been very proactive on the transfer front so far this summer, and a report claims that they could be adding another player to the squad.

The Scottish Sun is reporting that the Hoops are considering a move for Hapoel Be’er Sheva centre-back Hatem Abd Elhamed.

Versatile defender

The report goes on to claim that the fee for the player would be around £1.6 million. Interestingly, although the player is primarily a centre-back, he has also played at right-back. That is a current problem area for the Hoops.

Elhamed made 27 appearances for Hapoel last season, with the majority at centre-back. So well did he perform that he was given his first international call-up for Israel against Poland.

Signing would please support

If the Celts do manage to sign the player, the fans would be quite pleased. He might not be as a high-profile a signing as Christopher Julien. But as long as he performs well on the pitch is all that matters.

The player’s versatility could be what has attracted Celtic to Elhamed. Should he sign, he might well be used by Neil Lennon as a right-back.

It remains to be seen if the deal to sign Elhamed goes through, or if it is just a rumour. Should the player be signed though, it is the latest example of Celtic pulling out all the stops in the transfer window, which should be applauded by the support.
