Celtic are now into the Deadline Day stage of scrambling for reinforcements and they are set to conduct business by the close of play.

First of all, it makes sense to start with Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels. The Belgium Under-21 international is closing in on an £11 million move to Glasgow and could be unveiled today.

The versatile talent can play in a variety of different positions and looks set to replace Matt O’Riley in a deal that could potentially break the Bhoys’ transfer record.

Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty looks likely to join him. Celtic have agreed a £6 million fee for the United States international and he is now close to heading north of the border.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he wants two midfielders in the building, and it appears the reigning Scottish Premiership champions are firming up their advances for targets ahead of the deadline.

Celtic see Mahamadou Diawara loan bid rejected

According to journalist Santi Auona on X, Celtic have seen an initial loan bid with an option to buy for €8 million turned down for Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diawara.

He stated (translated via DeepL): “Glasgow Celtic have made a verbal offer to OL for a loan with an OA estimated at €8m. An attempt rejected by Lyon, who have no intention of SELLING Mahmadou Diawara.”

Last week, 67 Hail Hail told that Celtic had made a loan approach for Diawara, who had also been attracting interest from Nantes and Lens this window.

Nevertheless, it appears that the Ligue 1 giants aren’t in any rush to sell the French youth international despite potentially receiving €8 million (£6.7 million) as a permanent fee if all were to go to plan.

Ultimately, his name will be one of a number circulated today as Celtic look to bring in reinforcements before the deadline. Expect several alternative individuals in need of game time to crop up as the clock ticks down.

It is unclear whether the Bhoys will look to have a second crack at landing Diawara. Rest assured, we will keep you updated.
