Celtic reportedly still have former Ange Postecoglou target on their radar

The transfer window has become complex for Celtic as fans are starting to grow impatient at the lack of new Parkhead arrivals.

Frustratingly, the goalkeeper position hasn’t been addressed despite Joe Hart’s retirement from football, which has left a key void yet to be filled ahead of the new campaign.

Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah remain targets for Celtic following their successful loans last term; however, there is no white smoke from Celtic on either front, prolonging what has become a waiting game.

Talk over outgoings has been the order of the day, with the Bhoys rejecting approaches from Atalanta and an unnamed Russian club for Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate, respectively.

With Bernardo primed to come in and one or two potentially on their way out, the Celtic midfield is another area that may need bolstering this window. Reports suggest a familiar name could now be targeted by Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic have former Ange Postecoglou target on the radar

According to HITC, Celtic are said to have Middlesbrough midfielder Riley McGree on their radar after trying to acquire the Australia international in January 2022.

In a well-known tale, the 25-year-old opted to move to the Riverside Stadium instead of Parkhead, turning down the opportunity to work under compatriot Ange Postecoglou.

Paving the way for O’Riley’s move to Parkhead, Celtic fans will definitely feel they got the better end of the deal in the end. Nevertheless, the outlet claim McGree is in the Hoops’ thinking with one year left on his contract in North Yorkshire.

Per Transfermarkt, the Gawler-born man registered six goals and three assists in 25 appearances for Middlesbrough last campaign across all competitions.

Filling a creative role in the engine room, McGree is a talented individual with the capacity to score and provide intuition. Regardless, if this were to be something in the pipeline, it would remain to be seen how the Celtic fanbase would react following events a couple of years ago.

Celtic need bodies, the collective yearning for fresh blood in the squad cannot be understated. Action is required, but they are insistent on keeping all cards close to their chest.
