Celtic will hold discussions with the representatives of Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza, The Scottish Daily Mail has reported.

The 22-year-old is being watched by sides all over Europe, coming off the back of an impressive loan campaign spent in Belgium with KV Mechelen.

With Ange Postecoglou on the hunt for a midfielder this summer, Souza looks to be a player the club is keen to add to their ranks ahead of next season.

Journalist Stephen McGowan reports in the Scottish Daily Mail that Celtic have already scheduled discussions with the Brazilian, who is contracted to his parent club, Lommel SK.

The Belgian second division side has links to the City Group, which may suggest where the Hoops’ interest in Souza comes from.

The report also states that Celtic have competition for the former Flamengo man, with Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Bologna all declaring their interest in Souza.

There is currently no mention of whether the deal would be a permanent or loan move.

After the exit of both Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, another midfield option is clearly high on the agenda of Postecoglou.

With the transfer window officially opening today, Celtic’s work in the market will now be underway as we look to strengthen going into next season.

Celtic face a battle if they are to pursue Souza

It seems like a positive start to the interest in Vinicius Souza, with the club holding talks over a potential move this summer. It suggests interest beyond the initial look.

Celtic might have a slight edge over the competition in this deal too after our recent workings with the City Group and the appointments of both Postecoglou and Mark Lawwell.

The young midfielder certainly seems like an exciting talent after an excellent first season in the top flight of Belgian football.

A move for the former Mechelen loanee is likely to be a deal that would catch the eye of the Celtic support going into the 2022/23 season if business can be done.
