Celtic scout in demand Ivorian winger as another transfer move in Belgium starts to look unlikely

Brendan Rodgers is insistent that there’s lots of transfer work going on behind the scenes at Celtic, even if business hasn’t exactly been lightning-quick this summer.

The Bhoys have only made one outfield signing in advance of the Scottish Premiership kicking off on Sunday and that was for a player who spent last season on loan.

Rodgers himself has been clear that there is an urgent need to bring more players in. Assessing the team, new signings are needed at centre-back, left-back, striker and even on the wing – and that’s just for starters.

Celtic do appear to be looking at new winger options, although there is hope that Nicolas Kuhn and Luis Palma can kick on alongside Daizen Maeda this season.

Celtic show interest in Bazoumana Toure

One such winger attracting attention is Hammarby’s breakthrough talent Bazoumana Toure, who has scored three goals in his last six matches for the Swedish side.

Fotboll Direkt reports that Celtic had a scout in place to watch the attacker score against Brommapojkarana in late July.

It’s said any move for the Ivory Coast U20 international is unlikely during the current transfer window but other clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Crystal Palace and Eintracht Frankfurt are also tracking the teenager.

Celtic’s Balikwisha quest hits a dead end

Elsewhere on the transfer rumour mill this weekend, Celtic’s interest in Michel-Ange Balikwisha is at a ‘standstill’ despite initial suggestions a move had got as far as Brendan Rodgers talking personally with the winger.

Royal Antwerp’s asking price is too high for the Scottish champions as Bundesliga and Ligue 1 sides circle for his signature.

That update comes from journalist Sacha Tavolieri who first reported the potential transfer, having previously provided accurate updates on Hyeongyu Oh’s switch to Genk.
