Celtic still seem to be searching for a right-back to replace Mikael Lustig. It has been a long and arduous process.

The Hoops are on the verge of signing Hatem Abd Elhamed, who has played right-back, but he has been playing as a centre-back for the most part recently.

Therefore, the Hoops still need a right-back. There is one that could fit the bill, and he is a Scandinavian like Lustig.

That player is Az Alkmaar’s Norwegian right-back Jonas Svensson.

Svensson was a regular for Alkmaar last season, making 38 appearances and helping the club to a fourth placed finish in the Eredivise.

The player also scored one goal and had four assists. You can tell that he likes to get forward on occasion, similar to what Lustig done for the Hoops.

Svensson’s contract has two years left to run, so it would take a fair bit of money to get him to Celtic Park.

Celtic are willing to spend

However, the Hoops have showed that they are not afraid to spend this summer, as the £7 million signing of Christopher Jullien proves.

Secondly, right-back is an extremely important position for the Hoops. It is one that is worth spending a decent amount of money on.

Therefore, the Hoops should test Alkmaar with a £4 million offer. That would be applauded by the Hoops support who are desperate to see a right-back arrive at the club.

If the bid is accepted, one of the Hoops’ biggest squad problems of the summer will have been solved.
