Celtic showed an interest in much-hyped Australian forward Garang Kuol, who is now set to join Newcastle United, according to a report from Sky Sports.

This morning their journalist Anthony Joseph took to Twitter to inform his followers that the exciting teenager is bound for the Premier League side.

However, it seems like Celtic and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund also showed an interest in Kuol, who has been hitting it up in the A-League with Central Coast Mariners.

The striker, who has only recently turned 18, made his Socceroos debut just the other day when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over New Zealand.

With electric pace and direct play, it is perhaps no surprise that some big clubs would be in for him.

It’s even less of a surprise Celtic’s name has been mentioned, given who our manager is. The Ange effect may well see us linked with a few more exciting Aussies over the coming years.

A striker like Kuol may have been perfect for Celtic’s future

Kuol seems to fit the profile needed to be Celtic’s third striker at this moment.

Postecoglou only tends to play with one forward at a time unless trailing at St. Mirren, so game time is hard to come by.

Just ask Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Greek forward is undoubtedly one of the best finishers we’ve had in the last 15 years, yet he had struggled for game-time in the early portion of the season because Kyogo Furuhashi is so good.

Yet, Giakoumakis and Kyogo have had injury troubles during their times at the club and already this season.

Daizen Maeda is a decent third option, but a young, exciting player like Kuol could be what we’re looking for.

Odsonne Edouard was 18 when he first joined the club in 2017, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Edouard was the third choice behind Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths but eventually rose to be our talisman.

Surely, something similar will be on Ange’s mind for the day when Kyogo, Giakoumakis or both move on.

In other news, Mikey Johnston could be in line for his first start in Portugal this weekend
