New Celtic signing Patryk Klimala has been tipped for huge things by Polish FA president Zbigniew Boniek, The Scottish Sun report.
Klimala arrived at the Hoops last week in a £3.5m deal, immediately making his debut from the bench against Partick Thistle on Saturday evening.
His inclusion in yesterday’s squad suggests he’s ready to compete for first-team places in Neil Lennon’s squad from the off.
Although hopes are high amongst supporters, not much is known about the player in Scotland beyond a bit of research and analysis.
However, if the expert opinion of Boniek is to be believed, he could end up being a phenomenal signing for the Scottish champions.
The former Juventus star believes the U21 international could one day be as good as stunning Inter talent Lautaro Martinez.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “If you look at Jagiellonia, they should have included a clause in Klimala’s contract that meant he could only leave in the summer then he could have helped them fight for the title and he would have been worth more than £3.5 million.
“In a year or two, I think Patryk will be as good as Lautaro Martinez.
“He’s improved so much in the past six months because he was given game time.”
As comparisons go, it doesn’t really get much more exciting.
As reported by Tuttosport in October, Martinez is a wanted man this season and has a €111m release clause in his current Inter contract. Today, that exchanges into around £95m.
The Argentinian has scored 24 goals in 60 appearances for the Italian club, 15 of them coming this season (Transfermarkt).
While the prospect of Klimala reaching that kind of level is exciting, at this stage it does appear to be an outlandish claim from the Polish official.
However, if the player makes any kind of progression towards that elite level, then the £3.5m fee cited by Boniek will end going down as one of the prime Celtic transfer bargains of recent years.
Hopefully, we get more of a sense of the ability the player has in the coming weeks.
