Celtic summer signing Gustaf Lagerbielke sent a pretty brutal January transfer message

The writing has been on the wall for Gustaf Lagerbielke for a while now, even though he only joined Celtic in the summer.

Back in December, Gustaf Lagerbielke was coming off the bench and wheeling away in celebration when scoring the winner for Celtic in the Champions League.

At the time, many questioned if that was the turning point for the centre-back, but from the perspective of Brendan Rodgers, clearly not.

Andy Walker thinks the 23-year-old will head for the Parkhead exit door during the January transfer window because ‘clearly Brendan Rodgers doesn’t fancy him’, as he told Go Radio

The £3 million signing has only played 571 minutes of football for Celtic this term, with Gustaf Lagerbielke’s last start coming back in September.

The player in question might argue that he hasn’t been handed a proper chance, but from the minutes he has played, go back to the win at Ibrox, then he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire – Serie A clubs are pushing for him.

But with no major outgoings yet at Celtic, Andy Walker isn’t going to be surprised if Gustaf Lagerbielke is the one to leave.

Gustaf Lagerbielke’s future at Celtic

“You mention that goal he scored (in the UCL), I thought that might be the moment where he was able to kick start his Celtic career,” said Walker.

“But clearly Brendan Rodgers doesn’t fancy him. You wonder whether he was involved in bringing him to the club in the first place.

“That again is a position you would expect Celtic to make a signing before the month is out.”

Celtic beat Buckie Thistle

As mentioned, the writing has already been on the wall for Lagerbielke, but it was all but confirmed during the win over Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

Even with Cameron Carter-Vickers injured, he couldn’t start or even earn minutes from the bench as the team progressed in the Scottish Cup.

It was a great game for the team to restart after the winter break, with Ross County visiting Parkhead on Saturday and then a trip to Aberdeen.

Before the break, the performances and results from the Bhoys started to pick up and you are hoping that it will skyrocket during these coming months.
