Celtic supporters rue Olivier Ntcham mismanagement after departure confirmation

The Celtic supporters have been left gobsmacked by yet more poor mismanagement from the club as Olivier Ntcham seemingly left the club for nothing today.

The Hoops announced on social media this afternoon that Ntcham’s contract had come to an end. This came after the Frenchman posted his own goodbye to the club on Instagram.

In recent weeks, AEK Athens have been linked with a move for the former Manchester City midfielder [Daily Record]. But nothing came of it, and all of a sudden, Ntcham is out the door without the club having made a penny.

Celtic could’ve raked in plenty for Ntcham back in the summer of 2018. Porto were said to have had a £13m bid rejected for his services [Goal]. That came at a period when the midfielder was flying after an impressive debut campaign.

But the Hoops had another opportunity to let Ntcham go a year later. The player had been talking up a move to French outlet L’Equipe before the 2019/20 campaign. Instead, he was kept around despite the fact his contract was expiring two years later.

Celtic missed the boat on selling Olivier Ntcham

We had our chance to sell Ntcham when his value was as high as it was going to get. Our continued stance on keeping him at the club has now come back to haunt us.

Over the last two years, Ntcham has offered the club very little. He wasn’t a first-choice under Neil Lennon, and was nowhere near the picture under John Kennedy either.

It looked as though a renaissance could’ve been on the cards this summer. New boss Ange Postecoglou stated last month that Ntcham was looking to reignite his Parkhead career [Scottish Sun]. But he’d yet to feature for the club in any of our competitive matches before officially departing.

And Ntcham’s contract expiration only goes to sum up both the worrying lack of forward-planning and the gross mismanagement of players at the football club.

Below, the Celtic fans have expressed their bewilderment at today’s decision:
