Charlton Athletic winger Alfie Doughty has earned himself rave reviews for an English League One performance again this season, helping his side to a 1-0 win over Blackpool on Tuesday night.

Doughty was heavily linked with a move to Celtic during the recent transfer window, with The Scottish Sun reporting that multiple bids were made, which was later confirmed by Addicks boss Lee Bowyer.

Charlton supporters have been impressed with his performances for a while, as we discussed last month.

He contributed an assist last night and could be ready to take a step up in his career at the age of 20.

His contract expires at the end of the season and The Glasgow Times reported earlier this month that the Scottish champions plan to return for the player in January.

That would be a smart decision based on the evidence to date.

There is absolutely no risk to bringing the player in on a free transfer, or nominal January fee.

Celtic have actually taken something of a gamble by not meeting Charlton’s asking price for a player they clearly wanted before the transfer deadline.

We can only hope that the player does not commit his future to the League One outfit in the remaining weeks of the year.

These supporters have taken to social media over the last 24 hours to share their thoughts on his Tuesday performance…
