The latest Celtic transfer rumour doing the rounds involves Tom Ince of Stoke City.
Website Football League World reports that he is attracting interest from the Bhoys.
The outlet says that the club are exploring different possibilities to bring him to Glasgow this month.
Celtic have had a very slow January transfer window so far.
It’s difficult across the entire market, but the club are in urgent need of bolstering a couple of positions and business must be done.
One of those is undoubtedly on the wing, which is where Ince comes in.
Is Tom Ince the answer?
Ince was once a pretty hyped talent down in England.
His 15-goal, eight-assist season with Derby County in 2016/17 was impressive and, after a spell in the Premier League with Huddersfield Town, he would eventually move to Stoke City for a £10m fee.
Things at the Potters haven’t been easy for him, however, and he’s netted just nine goals since 2018 [Transfermarkt].
The situation has regressed so badly that he’s only made two starts this season for Stoke, and has had just 253 minutes of action in total [Transfermarkt]. None of it has resulted in a goal or an assist.
As a result, he’s a pretty uninspiring target from a Celtic perspective. Even in a difficult market, surely we could be doing better?
Fans need Celtic transfer action
Alongside the winger position, Celtic badly need a centre-back.
It seems likely that Neil Lennon will be leaving the club at the end of the season at the latest. However, the club needs to push on with pursuing scouted targets.
We can’t halt building for next season despite a change of manager.
Summer qualifiers will be hugely important, and with several first-team stars either here on loan or preparing to leave, inaction will only add to our unpreparedness.
