Peter Grant has backed Celtic to possibly secure a loan deal for Wolves winger, Daniel Podence.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to implement his own fingerprints on this Treble-winning Celtic side, as Daniel Podence, who is out of favour at Wolves this season, has emerged as a possible signing before the 2023 summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
Celtic legend Grant did admit that he is ‘surprised’ that the 27-year-old is being linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership given the quality in his legs, as he told Go Radio.
You would imagine, with the FFP issues that have hit Wolves this summer, which resulted in their manager Julen Lopetegui heading for the exit door, that the Midlands side would want a healthy transfer fee for their player.
That’s where the Bhoys might become unstuck, with Mail Sports journalist Tom Collomosse claiming on Twitter that they value Podence at ‘£12 million’, not forgetting the Premier League wages he will be on.
Either way, if Celtic can get a deal done for the player, then it would excite Grant, who shared the qualities the one-cap Portugal star has in his locker, including ‘great power’.

“I really like him,” said Grant. “I have seen him. He is very attack-minded, but great power. He has got fantastic legs.
“He reminds me of a guy that I used to work with, Sergei Rebrov. He just reminds me of him.
“I have seen him have some fantastic games in the Premier League. A player of that quality, I am surprised that he is being linked with a move up here. I don’t know what his finances would be to Wolves, or whatever and how much it would cost.
“Maybe a loan deal would be the best way to look at that one and see how it works out. There is no doubt about his quality. He can score a goal as well.”

Podence under Rodgers
Given that Podence isn’t part of Wolves’ plans, then the hope would be that the Premier League side will go easy when trying to negotiate down a deal.
And if the champions can do that, then what a coup he would be because he has always shown serious ball-carrying quality, but lacked that cutting edge in the final third.
But you would imagine that could be ironed out at Celtic because the versatile forward would be working under a more attack-minded manager, a lesser league in terms of quality, but a more dominant side.
Either way, Celtic have to seriously push for this deal during these coming weeks.
