Celtic transfer update heading into final days of January window; club looking at 2 players

Neil Lennon has provided a Celtic transfer update heading into the final days of the January window.

The club have until midnight on Monday (into Tuesday AM) to make additions to the squad.

So far, things have been dreadfully quiet in terms of incomings.

The only major bit of business completed this month has been the shock sale of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen.

Lennon is now hoping to add one or two players to his squad for the rest of the season.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound after the Hamilton match, he said: “Look, we’ve not been immune to this pandemic financially so we felt it was good business and the timing of the deal was the right thing to do.

“Whether we have money to spend we’ll see, because there might be options that come up over the next couple of days that we don’t expect. We are looking at one or two players to bring in.

“Christopher (Jullien) is out now for a long period of time and then obviously Jeremie has gone as well. So we might look at the full-back and centre-half area.”

Celtic need transfer action before end of window

Although there is little left to play for this season, Celtic do need to make signings.

This summer is already shaping up to be one of major transition. If the scouting department have identified suitable talent in key positions, we should move as early and quickly as possible.

Sadly I think we’ll see Celtic fill these squad gaps with loan players. I’d be surprised if they commit any substantial resources to key signings with Lennon’s future in so much doubt.

You may consider that a sensible decision, but it all really does highlight the chaotic situation at Celtic Park right now. We don’t have the ability to plan for the future at a time we need to most.

The club may yet surprise us, but don’t hold your breath and set your expectations low ahead of Monday night.

In other news, Neil Lennon has provided a worrying update on Vasilis Barkas.
