Celtic warned about signing Lennon Miller who isn’t better than four current Hoops stars

You suspect Lennon Miller is going to be the talk of Celtic’s summer transfer window.

Alongside Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic and a much-needed striker needing to come in after Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit in January.

Motherwell midfielder Miller is going to steal a few headlines because he is expected to leave Fir Park at the end of the season.

For several transfer windows now, Miller has been linked with Celtic and some were even suggesting that the champions-elect should have signed him during the January transfer window.

But Celtic kept their powder dry, as they push towards the Treble under Brendan Rodgers, but the recent Glasgow derby defeat to Rangers raised some interesting debates.

Without Callum McGregor, Celtic looked lost in the middle of the park and had no control with Arne Engels, Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan being the men to start.

Celtic warned about possible Lennon Miller transfer and developing Luke McCowan instead

Miller’s name was doing the rounds once Celtic lost to Rangers and how he would have been a better option in midfield with McGregor missing.

But Andy Walker thinks Celtic are better off developing summer signing McCowan, as he questioned if the teenager from Motherwell is better than the former Dundee man.

Walker also threw in the two obvious names better than Miller – captain McGregor and Hatate, as well as club-record signing, Engels, as he told Go Radio.

“When you see someone like Luke McCowan, who came from Dundee,” said Walker. “I think he plays well for Celtic. He has played a good number of games, as Brendan Rodgers was alluding to recently.

“But is he the guy who is going to start a game for you? Obviously, he did start against Rangers. But, when you have got everybody fit and Callum McGregor was playing, then Luke McCowan wouldn’t have started that game. It was a big opportunity for him. He showed up at times.

“But, to then take up somebody like Lennon Miller and have him? Who is the better player? Lennon Miller or Luke McCowan? I think right now, Celtic would want to try and develop Luke McCowan a bit more.

“I do take the point that someone like Hatate might move on, it’s no surprise because Celtic do a lot of business on players where they can get a tidy profit.

“But Luke McCowan is developing into a decent Celtic player. If Lennon Miller were to come. i don’t think Lennon Miller comes in and goes immediately into your strongest XI. He’s not better than Engels, McGregor and Hatate.”

Miller’s stats this season compared to McCowan

It needs to be noted that Miller is playing on a stage with less pressure, but is still doing remarkably well to perform at such a young age.

You don’t know how he would deal with the pressure of playing for Celtic, where you just don’t have to win, but perform very well whilst doing it, as WhoScored have rated his performances at 7.07 this term.

McCowan has felt that pressure and produced on occasions, although, he has had to play behind some big players for Celtic.

WhoScored have rated McCowan’s displays at just under seven, but he has more goal involvements than the man from Motherwell.
